Dissatisfied with his life of nobility, Hadrian Marlowe engineers' circumstances that force him out of his family’s favor—and his position altogether. The story opens with Hadrian acknowledging the name history will give him: Sun Eater. From there, he recounts these events as a retrospective of the life he has lived. In Empire of Silence, we explore his memories as we follow the journey from lost nobility to a man pulled into the very political hell he once fought to escape. 

Christopher Ruocchio has a fantastic way of leaving obvious breadcrumbs—just enough to keep you deeply engaged and eager to find out what comes next. His writing carries a sense of foreboding that makes you lean in and read faster. Knowing something inevitable is always waiting just ahead. 

Friends have said if you even slightly liked book one, you need to gorge yourself on the other six books in this series. Personally, I am ready to dig into book two: Howling Dark.
